Getting ready for 25 days of kayaking.
I live in paradise. With a beautiful woman and surrounded by nature and wildlife, loomed over by the tallest peak in the Canadian Rockies it would be hard to ague that this is not paradise. The house I live in is situated a few minutes walk and a few minutes paddle from the Fraser River. Downstream of where Swift Current Creek hits it the Fraser flows through some gentle channels and past immense log jams. After that it passes the base for Mount Robson Whitewater before picking up and cruising through some class II and III rapids broken up by Rearguard Falls. I know this section like the back of my hand. It's been one of my favorite stretches to work and play on for a long time but it's just the beginning. Downstream of the typical rafting takeout there are many, many more kilometers of the Fraser River and I'm going to check them all out on my way to the Pacific Ocean. The trip will be an escape from the connectedness I feel when I'm at home, despite being in paradise. It will be a chance to adventure down a path that I can't fully imagine. There will be plenty of time to go crazy and make my way back before taking out at the Pacific somewhere. This trip will offer the chance for me to wander into what is, for me, the unknown. I know where the beginning is and where then end is but I have only a vague idea of what lies in between. The anticipation is definitely starting to build!
